Scene 6 - Zoot Suit Riots

-I didn't like this scene either not only because of the content (what happens), but because i was kind of confused with the Press in the dialogue.

1)"The Press distorted the very meaning of the word 'zoot suit.' All it is for you guys is another way to say Mexican." ;p.80

2)Pachuco says this to the press to show how the newspaper tends to stereotype.

3) This is important because i think the generalization contributes to the themes of culture and civil rights.

-Why is the zoot suit more associated with the Mexicans rather than the Blacks or Filipinos, who also wear them?

  1. I didn't like this scene so much for the ame reasons as you.. It was confusing but it was mostly about the country winning the war. And I think that the answer to your question is because they are weird, and they are hatting because they don't look good in zoot suits like the latinos do. Haha. :D

  2. Re: Your question... It really may depend on what part of the country you're from... East coast, African Americans began the fashion trend... Perhaps (it's just conjecture), also, because Latinos have held on to /maintained the style? The riots themselves are part of the major association, as well.
